The history of pottery as an occupation dates back to the time of Indus valley civilization wherein clay shaped into different forms was used as a medium of storage utility. One of the main occupation of ancient India after agriculture and farming was crafting beautiful earthen pots from clays as it was easily and abundantly available in the Indian subcontinent. These beautifully shaped clay vessels were used for storing water, grains and other useful commodities.
Also through the art of pottery, the people of ancient India inscribed the history, art and culture of their time. Gradually with time use of other ceramic materials along with clay were used in making stylish potteries, handicrafts, jewelries and miniature figurines.
