You need to take tickets from the main gate in order to enter the garden area. Having a small walk, you will reach to the main building of Victoria Memorial.
Though, the entry through the main gate is stopped by late evenings, but it is said that the white marble building looks mesmerizing on a full moon night.

Kolkata is among the four metropolitan cities of India and hence reaching out here will not be that difficult. People traveling from within the country can avail Indian Railways to reach Howrah station or can even take a flight to reach out the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose airport.
If you are traveling somewhere from outside the country, you can still take flights to reach out to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport.
Victoria Memorial is situated in the Queens Way area and you can travel there from various ways. You take a cab or bus directly to reach out to Victoria Memorial. If you are staying at a location from where you can access Metro Railways, you can get down at the station Maidan, from where you can have a pleasant walk to reach Victoria Memorial.
